Edward Francis Fujan

Edward Fujan passed away on December 15, 2024 at the age of 91.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Charles Gene Brown

Charles Brown passed away on November 20, 2024 at the age of 76.  He served with the Navy during the Vietnam war.

Blaine William Amann

Blaine "Ben" Amann passed away on October 2, 2024 at the age of 92.  He served 4 years in the Air Force with the Air Weather Service during the Korean War stationed in North Africa, Italy, and Texas.

Gerald Arthur Kiewatt

Jerry Kiewatt passed away on September 17, 2024 at the age of 85.  He served 21 years in the Navy, two tours in Vietnam and Japan, and a tour of Italy as well as experiences in Antartica and Scotland.

James Arthur Hanson

Jim Hanson passed away on September 13, 2024 at the age of 87.  He seved 2 years in the Army during the Gulf War followed by 35-year career in the Army Reserves, achieving rank of Master Sergeant.

Ronald Dean Hunter

Ronald Hunter passed away on September 12, 2024 at the age of 82.  He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War followed by a 20 year military career with the Coast Guard until 1983. 

Joseph William Werre, Jr.

Joseph Werre passed away on August 10, 2024 at the age of 95.  He served in the Army during WWII during the occupation of Japan, 1946-1948.

Keven Paul Newton

Keven Newton passed away on July 12, 3024 at the age of 75.  He served in the Marine Corp with the India Company 37 in Vietnam. Then after, he served 21 years in the Army Reserves.

Stanley Lowell Koch

Stanley Koch passed away on July 10, 2024 at the age of 89.  He served in the Navy during the Korean War, 1953-1957.  He was in the inactive reserves  from 1957-1961 as a ET2, Petty Officer Second Class.

Edwin Earl Elmer Wagner

Edwin E.E. Wagner passed away on June 15, 2024 at the age of 97.  He was part of the final draft of WWII.  He served in the 5th Army Air Force from 1945-1948, including 26 months of service in Japan.

Grant Albert Kirgis

Grant A. Kirgis passed away on May 18, 2024 at the age 76.  He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Kip A. Meredith

Kip. A. Meredith passed away on April 15, 2024 at the age of 73.  He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Herbert "Herb" M. Erickson

Herb Erickson passed away on March 22, 2024 at the age of 96.  He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.

Gus Andrew Chafos

Gus A. Chafos passed away on February 12, 2024 at the age of 84.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Robert "Bob" Mesarchik

Robert Mesarchik passed away on February 3, 2024 at the age of 93.  He served in the U.S Army during the Korean War.

William "Bill" L. Fischer

Bill Fischer passed away on February 3, 2024 at the age of 89. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Sea Bee's during the Korean War.

Wayne H Bastian

Wayne Bastian passed away on January 10th, 2024 at the age of 99.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII.

Robert John "Bob" Durham

Robert Dunham passed away on January 3rd, 2024 at the age of 79.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietman War.

Edgar E. Laughton, Sr.

Edgar "Ed" Laughton, Sr. passed away on January 8, 2024 at the age of 85.  He served in the Minnesota National Guard staring in 1957.

Gene A Eiden

Gene Eiden passed away on December 24, 2023 at the age of 93.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War finishing in 1955 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO playing in the 6th Armored Division Band.

Lester M Griebenow

Lester Griebenow passed away on December 23, 2023 at the age of 90.  He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

James G Sullivan "Sully"

James "Sully" Sullivan passed away on December 16, 2023 at the age of 93.   He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War reaching rank of Staff Sargent.

Willard C Johnson

Willard Johson passed away on December 14, 2023 at the age of 98.   He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII auditing records of sailors.

Wendell E Burt

Wendell Burt passed away on December 5, 2023 at the age of 88.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Dale Eugene Christenson

Dale Christenson passed away on December 13, 2023 at the age of 90.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Robert Owen Lee

Robert Lee passed away on November 2, 2023 at the age of 86.  He served four years in the Minnesota National Guard.

Gene Elden Harnack

Gene Harnack passed away on September 27, 2023 at the age of 95.  He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. Endicott.

Robert J Koenck

Robert Koenck passed away on September 25, 2023 at the age of 90.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War

Karl Beeman passed away on September 23, 2023 at the age of 89.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Robert Anderson passed away on July 31, 2023 at the age of 82.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Lyman Miller passed away on July 18, 2023 at the age of 85. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Darold Baumgard

Darold Baumgard passed away on July 12, 2023 at the age of 92.  He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War.

Wayne Ralph Uptagrafft "Upty"

Wayne Uptagrafft passed away on July 5, 2023 at the age of 91.  He served in the U.S.Army duriing the  Korean War.

Sterling Duane Mestad

Sterling Mestad passed away on June 16, 2023 at the age of 94.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Tristan Martin Armstrong

Tristan Armstrong passed away on April 12, 2023 at the age of 82.   He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

David D. "Dave" Range

Dave Range passed away on May 18, 2023 at the age of 74.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. 

Theodore F. Perry
Theodore "Ted" Perry passed away on May 17, 2023 at the age of 91.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  

William Mayhew
William "Bill" Mayhew passed away on May 15, 2023 at the age of 80.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  

Theodore R. Bennett
Theodore "Ted" Bennett passed away on April 18, 2023 at the age of 89.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  

James R. "Jim" Hesse
Jim Hesse passed away on April 12, 2023 at the age of 79.  Jim was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1968, serving in the Italian Alps as a crypto clerk, as well as running the base’s postal  exchange. 

David E. Fenske
David Fenske passed away on March 19, 2023 at the age of 84.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.  

Howard E. Wagner
Howard Wagner passed away on February 19, 2023 at the age of 90. He enlisted into the United States Army between 1953 and 1955, during the Korean conflict, where he trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Camp Carson, Colorado and attained the rank of Sergeant as a tank specialist. Howard was very patriotic and had a great love of Country. 

Leo L. Haubenschild
Leo Haubenschild passed away on March 1, 2023 at the age of 90. He entered the U.S. Army on February 7, 1951, after Basic Training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. He served in Korea from September 1951 until January 1952 when the entire 1st Calvary Division was rotated out of the combat area and relocated to Camp Chitose on the Island of Hokkaido, Japan until his discharge in January 1954.

Michael J. Squires

Michael Squires passed away on February 18, 2023 at the age of 74.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  

James M. Franck
James Franck passed away on February 11, 2023 at the age of 81.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.  

Charles William Kienast

Charles (Chuck) Kienast passed away on January 30, 2023 at the age of 76.  He served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War 1965-1968 and discharged in 1987.

William "Bill" Lee Nietz
Bill Nietz passed away on January 20, 2023 at the age of 93.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean  War.  

Jerome "Joe" Schueler
Joe Schueler passed away on January 6, 2023 at the age of 82.  Following high school he enlisted in the Air Force where he was selected to be part of the security service and taught to speak and translate Russian into English while stationed off the coast of Alaska and Japan. His Air Force career was from 1960 to 1964, and his rank was Airman First Class. 

Harlan P. Aakre
Harlan Aakre passed away on December 31, 2022 at the age of 88.  He served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean  War.  He also served on the American Legion Post #92 Honor Guard for 20-years. 

Robert L. Milbrandt
Robert Milbrandt passed away on December 27, 2022 at the age of 91.  After graduation from high school he was inducted into the US Army where he served from 1952-1954 in the Engineers operating heavy equipment to help rebuild the Autobahn in Germany.

Steven R. Huyber
Steven Huyber passed away on November 28, 2022 at the age of 75.  Steven enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Dec. 1965. He served in Vietnam as a corpsman with the U.S. Marines and was awarded a Purple Heart.

Sidney R. Pedelty

Sidney Pedelty passed away on November 8, 2022 at the age of 72.  Sidney served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

Thomas S. Schneller
Thomas Schneller passed away on November 6, 2022 at the age of 75.  Thomas proudly served in the US Army Military Band at West Point during the Vietnam War.

Gary "Schoeney" Schoenfelder
Gary "Schoeney" Schoenfelder passed away on October 27, 2022 at the age of 74.  Schoeney enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War.  He also faithfully served as a Honor Guard Member and Executive Director with Post #92, Rochester, Minnesota.

Dennis B. Dormady
Dennis Dormady passed away on October 22, 2022 at the age of 68. Dennis enlisted in the US Navy in 1972 and was very proud to serve his country. He spent 4 years in Europe and the Eastern US, where he loved to travel and explore museums and the countryside.

Kenneth R. Vagt
Kenneth Vagt passed away on October 7, 2022 at the age of 76. Kenneth proudly began serving his country in 1967 with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He was a sharpshooter and marksman until 1970 when he was discharged under Honorable conditions.  

James A. Sanford
James "Jim" Sanford passed away on September 21, 2022 at the age of 73.  Jim enlisted in the US Army and served during the Vietnam War.

Michael W. Curtis
Michael Curtis passed away on September 25, 2022 at the age of 70.  Michael enlisted in the US Navy in 1972. He served 21 years, retiring in 1993. 

Donald D. Anderson
Donald Anderson passed away on September 15, 2022 at the age of 94.  Donald served in the Navy for two years in WWII. 

Preston A. McKeon
Preston passed away on September 12, 2022.  Preston enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1981. He completed basic training in San Diego, CA and was stationed at Naval Weapons Station Earle in New Jersey and later Naval Air Station Jacksonville in Florida. Preston told his family and friends many stories of his experience as a navigator on the USS Suribachi ammunitions ship and the USS Charles F. Adams guided missile destroyer. The ships traveled as far west as Bahrain and Pakistan. He earned an expeditionary medal for his service in the Grenada military operation of 1983. He was honorably discharged in 1985 with the rank of Quartermaster Third Class.  After serving in the Navy, he continued his military service in the Army National Guard of Minnesota, enlisting in 1986. He was stationed out of Rochester and was honorably discharged in May 1989 with Specialist Rank.

Robert "Bud" Holst
Bud passed away on August 16, 2022.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army Nov. 1950, serving in Korea, in the Army Security Branch until Nov. 1953.

Kenneth J. Diedrich
Kenneth Diedrich passed away on July 27, 2022.    Kenny enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for four years during Vietnam Era, from April 1964 to April 1968 primarily at Vandenburg Air Force Base in California. Kenny served as a Tele-Switch Equipment Specialist in Communications Equipment for Ballistic Missile silos. At this time, this power projection platform was the USA’s first line of defense.

Erwin E.M. Greenwaldt
Erwin Greenwaldt passed away on July 21, 2022 at the age of 100.  Erwin proudly served in the Army in WWII from 1942-45 and remembered the excitement of the day the war ended.

Orland E. Thoreson
Orland Thoreson passed away on July 11, 2022.  Orland joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.  

Keith W. Peterson
Keith Peterson passed away on July 10, 2022.  Keith joined the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years. After being honorably discharged, he went to work for TCI Cable Co. in Mankato, MN.  

Merle E. Bearden
Merle Bearden passed away on June 27, 2022.  Merle served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 in the 37th Tank Battalion. 

Richard D. Cooper
Richard Cooper passed away on June 13, 2022.  Richard was drafted into the Army at Fort Snelling in St. Paul, MN, in December of 1944 and attended basic training at Camp Hood, TX. On his nineteenth birthday, he was deployed to Manila, Philippines, and then after the drop of the atomic bomb, he transferred to Tokyo, Japan, where he served in occupied Japan for one year. He returned to the United States and was honorably discharged on November 14, 1946. 

Ronald J. Yanish
Ron Yanish passed away on May 30, 2022.  Ron joined the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War.  

Charles R. "Chuck" Bartholomew
Chuck Bartholomew passed away on May 20, 2022.  Chuck joined the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War.  

Raymond J. Paschke
Ray Paschke passed away on May 7, 2022.  Ray joined the U.S. Air Force in 1963.  

Fred E. Schmidt
Fred Schmidt passed away on May 11, 2022.  Fred proudly served 3 years in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict. He was a Parachute Rigger in Alaska for 18 months.

John W. Nelson
John Nelson passed away on May 1, 2022.  John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  

Earl A. Krippner
Earl Krippner passed away on April 14, 2022.  Earl proudly served his country as part of the U.S. Navy. He was in World War II, the Pacific Theatre and was involved in seven invasions and five battles. Earl obtained the rank of Naval Petty officer.

Steven L. Larson
Steven Larson passed away on April 13, 2022.  Steve graduated from Mayo High School in 1973 and immediately entered the Air Force upon graduation.  He spent 23 years traveling the world visiting foreign countries such as Okinawa, Paraguay, and South Korea. While stationed at Vandenberg AFB, CA and Warren AFB, WY, from 1989 – 1993. He was in the Geodetic Survey section and team leader with the Defense Mapping Agency. He managed survey teams temporarily located worldwide. Also lead survey teams on government surveys, including mapping Paraguay, space shuttle landing system, and airport surveys. At F.E. Warren Air Force Base, he was First Sergeant and base contracting office manager before retiring and returning to Rochester, MN. He retired at the rank of SMSgt.

Dale H. Schwartz
Dale Schwartz passed away on April 6, 2022.  Dale joined the United States Army in 1955.

Kenneth H. Kalk
Kenneth Kalk passed away on March 29, 2022.  Kenneth served in the United States Army in 1963 and served two years in Missouri, Georgia and Hawaii. 

Lloyd R. Nelson
Lloyd Nelson enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served courageously on a destroyer (USS Fullam) in the South Pacific during World War II. He passed away on March 24, 2022.

Harold E. DeWitz
Harold DeWitz passed away on February 27, 2022.  Harold served as a powerman and instructor in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. 

Virgil H. Nielsen
Virgil Nielsen passed away on February 11, 2022.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1964, was deployed to Korea and honorably discharged in 1968. 

Dale J. Wieck
Dale Wieck passed away on February 14, 2022.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Richard R. Witzke
Richard Witzke passed away on February 9, 2022.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

LaVern "Lefty" Allhiser
LaVern Allhiser passed away on January 31, 2022.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Melvin G. Vehrenkamp
Melvin Vehrenkamp passed away on February 1, 2022.  He served in the U.S. Navy between 1945 - 1948.

Davis Vincent Curtis Aakre
Davis Aakre passed away on January 23, 2022.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Jerry Dubin passed at the age of 92.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Richard A. Hamann, Sr.
Richard Hamann passed away on December 15, 2021.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Frederick W. Saack
Frederick Saack passed away on December 16, 2021.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Raymond J. Krolak
Raymond Krolak passed away on December 8, 2021.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

George E. Grubb
George Grubb passed away on December 3, 2021.  He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Charles "Chuck" K. Hazama
Chuck Hazama passed away on November 28, 2021.  He served in the Army during the Korean War having received the Purple Heart.  Chuck Hazama also served as the Mayor of Rochester from 1979 - 1995.

Eugene "Gene" R. Miller

Gene Miller passed away on September 27, 2021 at the age of 78.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Larry Thompson

Larry Thompson passed away on April 5, 2021 at the age of 84.  He served in the U.S. Army at Japan, Berlin Crisis, Vietnam War, and many other countries. Receiving the Bronze Star for heroic service in Vietnam. He completed 29 years of active service in 1984.

Lyle "Mike" V. Madsen

Lyle Madsen passed away on March 28, 2021.  He served in the Air Force.

John “Jack” F. Just
John Just passed away on March 5, 2021.  He served in the Air Force for two years.

Leonard "Lenny" W. Liffrig
Leonard Liffrig passed away on February 10, 2021.  He entered the U.S. Army and served in the reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1966.

Jerome "Jerry" A. Towey
Jerry Towey passed away on February 5, 2021.  In 1958 he joined the Navy and retired in 1978.

Joseph "Chunk" L. Skelly
Joseph Skelly passed away on January 21, 2021.  He went into the US Air Force serving his country during the Korean War receiving the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

Dennis E. Fohrman
Dennis Fohrman passed away on December 15, 2020.  In February 1964, he was drafted by the U.S. Army. He spent his two years in Fort Hood, Texas - luckily avoiding the Vietnam War.

Corrin J. Hodgson, MD, MPH
Corrin Hodgson passed away on November 28, 2020.  Hhe was drafted into the Air Force during the Berlin Crisis. During 10 years of active duty, Dr. Hodgson was a flight surgeon/director of medical services at Air Force bases in Mountain Home, Idaho, Pleiku, Vietnam, Selma, Alabama and Fairborn, Ohio, where he was Chief of the Vibration Branch, Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory.  Dr. Hodgson completed his Air Force training in Aerospace Medicine at the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine and NASA Manned Spacecraft Center. He was a member of the Space Medicine Branch of the Society of USAF Flight Surgeons and a charter member of the Society of NASA Flight Surgeons.  He was a consultant to the USAF Surgeon General.  Dr. Hodgson was Director of Base Medical Services, 934th Tactical Airlift Group at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport. He retired from the reserves with the rank of colonel. He was honored as Air Force Reserve Flight Surgeon of the Year.

Elmo C. Lien
Elmo Lien passed away on November 26, 2020.  He entered the Navy in 1942 and served in the 53rd US Naval Construction Battalion in the South Pacific, Guam and New Caledonia until his honorable discharge in 1945. His WWII military career involved rebuilding airstrips, bridges and roads destroyed by enemy forces. Bulldozers and Catepillars were his tools.  As a Navy Seabee, their motto was "Can Do" and Elmo held that principle throughout his life.

Charles "Chuck" F. Oviatt
Chuck Oviatt passed away on November 22, 2020.  He was stationed in France and Germany while serving in the Army from 1965 – 1967.

Rodney M. Miller
Rod Miller passed away on October 30, 2020.  He served in the Army for six years.

Richard C. Hinz
Richard Hinz passed away on October 24, 2020.  In 1957 Richard enlisted in the US Navy where he graduated from the Naval Air Traffic Control School and was stationed at US Naval Air Station Floyd Bennett, Brooklyn, New York until his honorable discharge on November 21st 1961.

Gerald L. Wondrow
Gerald Wondrow passed away on August 22, 2020.  He was a proud military veteran having served in the United States Navy from 1965-1968. He received a Bronze Metal for his service during the Vietnam War and was very proud to have served his country.

Arthur “Art” D. Brandt
Arthur Brandt passed away on August 19, 2020.  He enlisted in the US Navy in 1951 and served aboard the LST 525 and the APA 224.

James P. Adamson
James Adamson passed away on August 18, 2020.  He enlisted in the Navy and became a Naval Air Navigator with the Naval Air Transport Squadron Six, based at McGuire AFB, New Jersey.  He was also very proud of his service and had many stories about his flying days; a crash landing without landing gear, and a strange string of events that kept him from flying in an aircraft that disappeared over the Atlantic never to be seen again.

Erwin O. "PeeWee" Evenson
PeeWee Evenson passed away on July 31, 2020.  He was a Korean War Veteran.

Arthur G. Schmidt
Arthur Schmidt passed away on July 25, 2020.  He enlisted into the United States Army Air Corp on July 16, 1942 at Fort Snelling, MN. He was stationed in England as a dispatcher clerk and packed parachutes. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1945 at Camp McCoy, WI.

Alfred A. Petosky
Alfred Petosky passed away on June 15, 2020.

Andrew M. Neville
Andrew Neville passed away on May 16, 2020.  Drafted into the Army, Pat's tour of duty was in Cu Chi and Dau Tieng, Vietnam, 1968-1970. He was a Sergeant at the rank of PFC in a Med Motor Pool going from E-4 to E-5 in one month. Honors received included Army Commendation Medal, Two Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal and two-time Soldier of the Month.

Dennis E. Jeske
Dennis Jeske passed away on May 7, 2020. He served as a proud member of the South Dakota National Guard.

Dean F. Lent
Dean Lent passed away on April 8, 2020. He served in the US Navy during WW II and was deployed on the supply ship USS Randall in the South Pacific, including at the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Vincent M. Berg
Vincent Berg passed away on April 4, 2020. He enlisted in The United States Navy and was deployed during WWII in the South Pacific aboard The USS-LST-742. Vince was proud of his service, and was one of the ship's last two surviving crew members.

Gerald “Jerry” C. Dormady
Jerry Dormandy passed away on March 12, 2020.  In 1964, Jerry joined the Air Force, serving for nearly 22 years.  He was stationed across the world during his time in the Military.  After his retirement from the Air Force in 1985, Jerry worked as a civilian Food Service Contractor providing service to the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines.

Gordon L. Grosenick
Gordon Grosenick passed away on February 27, 2020.  He enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953.

Raymond H. Johnson
Raymond Johnson passed away on February 13, 2020.   He was a proud member of the Army National Guard for eight years.

John F. Wallace
John Wallace passed away on February 13, 2020.   He enlisted in the Marines in 1953 and served proudly for three years and did a tour in Japan during that time.

Daniel D. Macken, Sr.
Daniel Macken, Sr. passed away on January 31, 2020.  He joined the US Air Force and was stationed at Scott Air Force Base near St. Louis, Missouri where he was assigned duty as a chaplain’s assistant.

Allen L. “Al” Felstead
Al Felstead passed away on January 18, 2020.

Thomas P. "Tom" Burns
Tom Burns passed away on December 23, 2019.  Tom was in the Army and served part of his time in Germany.

Leo "Dale" D. Corfits

He was a drill instructor in the United States Army during the Korean War, and had a distinguished and decorated army career. Richard was recommended by his commanding officer to attend Officer Candidate School, but decided to leave the military to pursue other opportunities.

Emilio A. LoIacono
Emilio LoIacono passed away on December 3, 2019. 
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1945, and served in the Pacific Theater in Saipan. He received the American Theater, Asiatic Pacific and Victory Ribbons. He was honorably discharged in July 1946, and received a Commemorative Medal from Saipan Veterans of Foreign Wars in 2007.

Arnold Nelson passed away on July 29, 2019. In 1942, he enlisted in the US Army. He was stationed in the SE Asian Islands and was discharged in March of 1946. He had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Joseph R. McGlinch
Joseph McGlinch passed away on July 2, 2019.  In 1944, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his Naval service, he spent many off-duty hours playing big band music. Joe was discharged from the Navy in June 1946. In 1950, he was called up into the U.S. Army for the Korean War and was a member of the 47th Infantry Division Band. He was discharged in 1952.

Leon Swendsen passed away on June 24, 2019.  Leon was a World War II veteran. He was proud of his military service and devoted to his country — flying the U.S. flag every day and never missing a Memorial Day or Veteran’s Day celebration.

Stanley "Stan" E. Whiting
Stanley Whiting passed away on June 17, 2019.  Seventeen at the time, Stan lied about his age so he could enlist in the Air Force during WW2 (1943-1945), and later, Korea (1945-1952). He was ranked Major in the Civil Air Patrol for 44 years (1941-1985) and loved every second of it.

Theodore Adams passed away on June 13, 2019.  On July 4, 1959, he joined the United States Marine Corps.

Bud Lindberg passed away on June 1, 2019.  He served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954 as a baker and was stationed in England. He received an honorable discharge as Airman First Class.

Vernon F. Smith
Vernon Smith passed away on May 9, 2019.  Vernon enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He served for 3 years, from April 1950 to May 14, 1953, obtaining the rank of Sergeant in the Army  11th Airborne Division “The Angels” Medical Battalion. He started with Basic Training in California, then went to Fort Campbell, KY. His duties were to drive ambulance from the dispensary to the hospital, and to haul casualties from the drop zone to the hospital. He then went to Clarksville, TN to complete Jump School. Although he served during the Korean war, he was never deployed overseas. They kept him stateside to train other soldiers.

Lawrence Wehrs passed away on March 31, 2019.  During World War II, Lawrence served in the Third US Army Headquarters in Europe under General George Patton. He received the Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal with Four Battle Stars and was also awarded a Bronze Star which was pinned on him by General Patton himself in February 1945. Having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, he was honorably discharged in the fall of 1945.

He was assigned to the 120th (Heavy Artillery) Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of Corporal and was awarded 5 Bronze Stars and the Bronze Star Medal Citation "for heroic achievement in action on 7 October 1944, in Germany..."

Elton L. Butlin
Elton Butlin passed away on February 22, 2019.  In September 1944, he enlisted in the Army. He served in the South Pacific as a squad leader on mortar crew 607. Elton was decorated with several medals including a Bronze Battle Star and Infantry Combat Badge. He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal in a ceremony and congratulated for his wartime service by Brigadier General Fenton S Jacobs.

Dennis Schilling passed away on October 2, 2018.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957 as a member of a mobile weather squadron. His duty stations included California, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa and the South Pacific island of Tarawa. While on Tarawa, he and his squadron supported multiple H-Bomb tests that took place on the nearby island of Bikini Atoll.

Peter joined the U.S. Navy on July 27, 1942 and served our contry faithfully until receiving honorable discharge on Nov. 8, 1951 with the title of Cheif Commissaryman serving aboard LST 849, LST 371 and USS Odum.  During his tenure, Peter proudly served in both the European and Pacific theatres of operation and participated in the invasion of North Africa, Italy, Normandy, Anzio and the occupation of Japan.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 92 for 33 years and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1210.

Lester Erickson passed away on January 5th, 2017 in Stewartville.  Lester enlisted in the Army during WWII, and served in both theaters of war.

Dwayne E. Schacht
Dwayne passed away on November 22, 2016.  Dwayne served in the Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force, 92nd Bomb Group, 326th Squadron, as a flight engineer.  While stationed at the Royal Air Force Station Podington, England, he flew 35 missions in a B-17, "Flying Fortress", arriving safely home in 1945.  His combat position in the plane was the upper turret, equipped with twin 50 caliber machine guns.  He had many other duties as well.  Dwayne shared many of his experiences and memories from the war at Scott Hosier WWII Roundtable.

Clarence J. O'Neil
Clarence passed away on December 10th, 2016. He was a proud member of the US Army Air Corps from september 1942 until his honorable discharge in september 1945.  While in the military, Clarence was in the 390th bombardment group, 571st squadron.  While on active duty in the European Theatre, he flew on 25 missions over Germany as the Left Waist Gunner on a "Flying Fortress" B17 lovingly named the Pickle Dropper.  Living thru those 25 missions eraned Clarence the coveted "Lucky Bastards" certificate!  Clarence was the only member of a 10-man crew who was wounded, earning him a Purple Heart.  He was also awarded the distinguished Flying Cross and Air medal with 3 oak leaf clusters by the command of Gerald James Harold Doolittle. Clarence also maintained a diary of all of his 25 missions while in the European theatre.  For the last 10 years of his life, one of Clarence's favorite passtimes was attending and participating in the WWII Round Table discussions.  While with that group, he was able to go on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. which he loved and greatly appreciated.

Eugene M. Sorensen
Eugene M. Sorensen passed away on October 22, 2016.  Enlisted in the US Army at age 16 and fought in the Korean War to secure Old Baldy. Gene acheived the rank of Field Lieutenant, received a Purple Heart, and served in the Military Police during his near eight years of military service.

Wilfred H. Hoffman
Wilfred "Bill" passed away on October 31, 2016.  On March 13, 1953, Bill was drafted into the United States Army and was honorably discharge on February 25, 1955.

Lyle J. Yokiel
Lyle Yokiel passed away on October 2, 2016.  He joined the Army in september 1962 where he served one year stateside and 2 years overseas being honorably discharged in 1965.

Milan R. Laudon
Milan Laudon passed away on September 15, 2016.  He entered the Army on March 25, 1941, at Fort Snelling. He served as a sergeant in the 6th Signal Corp of the 6th Infantry Division.  As a lineman in telephone communications, his group was responsible for communication from Division Headquarters out to the forward frontline combat positions. He served his country honorably for more than four years in the jungles of New Guinea and the Philippines. He and his fellow soldiers of the 6th Army were preparing for the first phase of the invasion of the Japanese mainland when Japan's surrender ended the war. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 9, 1945.

Kendall J. Heins
Kendall Heins passed away on August 26, 2016.  He enlisted in the National Guard in 1941 he was assigned to Kitchen duty and worked in that area for thr entire 4 years and eight months of his service. He was an American Legion member for 70 years and was instrumental in the success of the Legion Post 92, also a Past president of the Rochester Jaycees.

Knute Bungum passed away on October 5th, 2016.  In 1954 he enlisted in the US Army and served during thye Korean concflict.  He was honorably discharged and then joined the Army Reserves.

Hiram "Hi" Miller Lake

Passed away on July 6th, 2016.  Hi was drafted into the US Navy out of his senior year in high school, was sent to Grove City College for training in electronics (including early studies of radar)  and then was attached as radio man to a Marine unit for service in the Pacific.  Following the Japanese surrender, Hi was part of a technical contingent that installed US antennas at the top of the Yokohama radio tower entailing a 300 foot climb in the dead of night.

Passed away on May 29, 2016.  He served our country in the 38th infantry, Fighting in the Phillipines.  Bud believed his faith carried him through the darkest days of war, including surviving Malaria and being wounded.

Passed away on May 12, 2016 after a long illness.  He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed primarily in Montabaur, Germany.  He was an American Legion member for over 20 years.

Passed away on March 2, 2016.  Floyd joined the US Navy in March 1945 and was in Tokyo Bay on the USS New Mexico the day Japan surrendered.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Passed away on March 5th, 2016. He was drafted into the US Army during high school and served in the occupation of France and germany with the Military Police.

Passed away on March 14, 2016.  From 1942 to 1945 he served in the US Marine Corps, 320th Platoon.

Passed away March 5, 2016.  He served in the US Air Force from 1958 to 1966 with assignments in Morocco, North Africa, England, and the United States.

Ronald "Bill" Beighley

Passed away on February 27, 2016.  He joined the US Air Force in 1961, working as a medic and living in Japan for several years before his honorable discharge in 1967.  He received medals of conduct and the Air Force Longevity Service medal.

William J. Kittley

Passed away on Jan. 24, 2016.  Bill left high school early to serve in the US Navy during World War II. he proudly served as a Seabee, constructing barracks and landing strips for US forces to arrive in Hawaii, Saipan, and Tinian.  Bill was thrilled to be on the first Honor Flight from Rochester to Washington, DC.

Passed away on Dec. 20th , 2015.  He joined the US Navy right after graduation in 1945 and was discharged from the military on his 21st birthday.

Passed away on Dec. 1st, 2015.  He was in the US Marine Corps from 1654-1956.

Dr. Lloyd H. Truax, Jr.

Passed away on December 11, 2015. He was a Seconf lieutenant and navigator in  the Army Air Corps. He flew with the Flying Tigers in a B-24 Liberator stationed in China.  He flew 62 missions with more than 400 Combat hours all single ship night missions flying over the "Hump" the Himalaya Mountains.

Alvin D. Imm, age 79 of Rochester passed away August 8th, 2014.  In 1955 he joined the Marines and served four years as an aircraft mechanic.  He stood guard during the inauguration of President Eisenhower's second term. He was a member of the American Legion.

David Leo Anderson
David Leo Anderson, 91, died peacefully at Cottagewood Senior Living Thursday, April 17, 2014. After high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served during WWII campaigns in Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, Philippines and Luzon as technician fifth class. He received ribbons and commendations. David was a long standing member of the American Legion Post 92.

Richard A. Stoos, 91, of Rochester, MN passed away suddenly on Friday, April 11, 2014, at his home. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served as an electrician's mate second class during WWII. He was stationed in Trinidad.

Calvin A. Neumann, 89, of Rochester, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth.  He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 92.

Lester Bunnell
Lester J. Bunnell Jr. , 79, of Rochester, peacefully left this world March 18, 2014 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's. In 1952, he joined the U.S. Navy where he earned the ranking of E-9 Master Chief Petty Officer. He served during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Uvalde where he was wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart. He also served on the Infamous Riverboats in Vietnam. After being discharged, Lester continued doing per diem work for the Navy, traveling to many Universities throughout the U.S. as a recruiter and also did many motivational speeches on his behalf. He was well respected.

Vern R. Meister, 79, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.  He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Rochester VFW Post 1215 and American Legion Post 92.

Aldin Fiksdal
Aldin "Al" Fiksdal, 88, died on Tuesday, February 25, 20214 at Mayo Clinic, St. Marys Campus. He joined the U.S. Navy on July 1, 1943 and served in the Pacific Aleutian Island area. Al was discharged on May 23, 1945 from the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA.

Warren W. Brumm
Warren W. Brumm, 88, of Rochester, MN died Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Seasons Hospice Cottage. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska as a radar/radio man and gunner for a bomber squad. He was a long time Eagles Club member and a member of the American Legion Post 92.

Wilbur E. Yarges
Wilbur E. Yarges, 97, died Monday, February 17, 2014. He passed away peacefully in Rochester. In January 1942, following the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in October 1945. Wilbur was awarded several medals by the United States as a result of his exemplary service. Specifically, he received  Combat Action Ribbon, a European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with two stars, an American Campaign Medal,  Navy Good Conduct Metal and a World War II Victory Medal.

George R. Ingalls
George R. Ingalls, age 77, of Rochester, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at St. Marys Hospital with family at his side. He joined the Army on January 9, 1955 and completed the basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO and then went to advanced anti-aircraft training in Fort Bliss, TX. He arrived in Korea on January 1, 1956. George often spoke of hitchhiking home during his leaves. In those days people would not pass a soldier in uniform so he never had a problem hitching a ride. He was honorably discharged from the 24th infantry. He was a proud member of the Rochester Korean War Club, served on the Executive Committee, and participated in many of the parades, and other club events.

Cecil James Carey, 90, of Rochester, formerly Lake City, passed away at his home, Saturday, May 18, 2013.  He served in the United States Navy from July 1943 until his honorable discharge January 3,1946 in the South Pacific on board an LCT. He was a life member of VFW Post 8729, Lake City, life member of American Legion Post 92, Rochester, 2001 Charter Member National WWII Memorial, Washington, DC and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Rochester.

Hilmer Stiller
Mr. Hilmer Stiller died on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 of natural causes, at Arbor Terrace in Rochester, where he had been a resident for two weeks. Hilmer served his country during WWII in the US Army and held the rank of staff sargent at the time of his discharge.

He enlisted in the Army Air Force on October 16, 1942 and was trained as a Norden Bombsight and Honeywell Automatic Pilot Technician at Midland Air Force Base in Texas.  He served over three years at the Army Air Force Bombardier School in Big Spring, TX. He received an honorable discharge on January 6, 1946.
